New Communication Through ClassDojo Saves Schools Money On Parent-Teacher Conferences

For teachers that want to make learning subjects more fun and engaging for their class, a little app is available that can do just that. This app is ClassDojo, formerly a good behavior app that has now become a new social media platform for elementary and middle schools. It’s easy to find and download to any mobile device from Google Play or Apple’s app store and you don’t have to ask your school administrator to use it. But administrators are included in the program if they want to be involved and look in on their classrooms from their own devices. The best part of this app is how parents can see photos and posts on their students’ activities and learning abilities, and since teachers can talk to them as often as they want throughout the day it’s saving schools on annual parent-teacher meeting costs.

Sam Chaudhary and Liam Don, two students from the UK got the idea while visiting the US and felt young students weren’t learning subjects the right way. But they wanted to do even more to help students including getting them to learn subjects in ways that would challenge their thinking and get them to find new solutions. So they started a YouTube video series in coordination with a Stanford University learning research group about student mind growth.

ClassDojo has become the interest of many investors and several venture capital providers have given the app $30 million total after it’s latest $21 million round. Chaudhary and Don have been shrewd about how they’ve used the funds and thus far have not spent any on marketing. They believe the word will get out as more teachers and students use it and thus far its spread to thousands of schools in the US, Canada, UK and other countries. There is no rush for investors to see returns on the app yet, but there are plans to make extra content for users available for small payments. The basic use of the app will always remain free. Right now Chaudhary and Don are mostly focused on improving security and privacy features on ClassDojo.
